Is PicPak Picker affiliated with PicPak?

No. PicPak Picker is an unofficial, independent web app that interacts with PicPak devices over their Bluetooth Low Energy protocol. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by the makers of PicPak.

Which browsers are supported?

Any Chromium-based desktop browser with Web Bluetooth: Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, or Vivaldi. Firefox and Safari do not support Web Bluetooth and will not work.

Does PicPak Picker upload my photos to a server?

Accepted Answer

No. All image processing happens in your browser. The only data leaving your device for processing is the Bluetooth traffic to the PicPak frame itself. The host (Cloudflare Pages) records anonymous pageview counts via privacy-friendly Web Analytics (no cookies, no fingerprinting, no PII). There are no third-party trackers, no account, and no cookies set by the app itself.

Why does it look better than the stock app?

PicPak Picker uses Atkinson and other modern dithering algorithms, perceptual Oklab colour-space distance, and an out-of-gamut compression pass that handles colours the 4-colour panel cannot reproduce (cyan, blue, green). The stock app uses a simpler nearest-colour mapping.
